School grounds, it burst open to reveal nothing more dangerous than a set of barbells, minus the weights. ``We have no idea why a person brought these items here,'' said sheriff's Deputy Dwayne Bednar. ``We are investigating a possible motive.'' Before the detonation, some 700 El Dorado pupils were moved from their classrooms to a grassy grass·y adj. grass·i·er, grass·i·est 1. Covered with or abounding in grass. 2. Sheriff's officials said a teacher at the school, near Foxton Street and Avenue J, reported seeing a man carrying two briefcases and acting suspiciously on the school grounds at 7:40 a.m. The teacher said the man stopped in front of a row of electrical boxes on the west end of the campus and tried to hide, then transferred metal objects from one briefcase to another, deputies said. ``At any distance, the objects would appear to be pipe bombs or other explosives,'' Bednar said. School officials went to investigate, but found only one briefcase and no sign of the man. Officials initially brought the briefcase into the office, then took it outside and left it next to a tree. That's where it was when sheriff's arson/explosives experts set off the charge. School officials notified the Sheriff's Department an hour after the briefcase had first been reported.
