BOMA elects DiCapua as next president.

Peter L. DiCapua, one of the most active leaders of the New York real estate industry, has been elected president of The Building Owners' and Managers' Association of Greater New York, Inc. (BOMA/NY) beginning in January 1993.

DiCapua, a senior vice president of Atco Properties & Management, Inc., has a long history of distinguished service to the profession, as demonstrated by his selection as the Real Estate Board of New York's (REBNY) Management Man of the Year for 1991. He serves as vice chairman of the REBNY Management Board of Directors, a director of the Real Estate Advisory Board on Labor Relations, president of the Owners Committee on Electric Rates, Inc., a director of the New York Building Congress and the Audit Committee of BOMA International.

DiCapua will be making "association teamwork the overriding theme" of his administration."

"Whenever the associations have approached an issue as a team---as we did on the recent BOMA/NY-REBNY task force on indoor air quality - we have achieved far better results than if we had stood alone," he explained. "These joint efforts will be even more critical in the future."

In recent years, BOMA/NY has stepped up its representation of ownership and management issues before New York City governmental agencies.

In addition to serving as an advocate for owners and managers of New York real estate, BOMA/NY has been a leader in professional education for the real estate industry. Founded 25 years ago, the association's activities include: Seminars on topical issues to provide practical, hands-on knowledge and improve professional skills; scholarships and support for on-going professional certification (RPA, FMA and SMA designations); monthly luncheons addressed by top government officials and business leaders, an annual 'Awards For Excellence," program, recognizing the outstanding contributions of individuals, businesses and institutions to the City, and special events for the members. Its committees on Codes & Regulations, Energy, and Education generate "White Paper' issues documents analyzing and making recommendations on such critical concerns as indoor air quality, CFC's, ADA legislation, water Treatment and more.

DiCapua brings more than two decades of ownership and management experience to his new duties at BOMA/NY. At Ateo, he has been responsible for management, adaptive reuse, development and capital improvements programs. A licensed Professional Engineer, DiCapua is often called upon as a consulting engineer in property acquisition, development and maintenance for the real estate and legal community.

A Lieutenant Commander in the U.S. Navy, DiCapua received his engineering training at the State University of New York Maritime College at Fort Schuyler, from which he graduated with a Bachelor of Engineering Degree.
