IN Y2K.Byline: - Reed Johnson The Bolshoi Ballet Bolshoi Ballet (bōl`shoi, bôl`–), one of the principal ballet companies of Russia; part of the Bolshoi Theater, which also includes Russia's premier opera company. The Bolshoi Ballet began as a dancing school for the Moscow Orphanage in 1773. will perform its new production of ``Don Quixote'' and its original, time-honored ``Romeo and Juliet'' next year at the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion. The 140-member Russian company, currently celebrating its 223rd season, will visit Los Angeles during the week of June 19, 2000, as part of a four-city U.S. tour that will take it to the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington, D.C., the Paramount Theatre in Seattle and the Orange County Performing Arts Center in Costa Mesa. This will be the Bolshoi's first nationwide U.S. tour in more than a decade. ``The Bolshoi's influence and reputation expanded ballet's worldwide audience, and through their excellence the entire world has come to know and love this incredible art form,'' said Andrea Van de Kamp, chairman and chief executive officer of the Music Center, which comprises the Dorothy Chandler, the Ahmanson Theatre and the Mark Taper Forum.
