BOLOCO AT THE TOPANGA MALL -- IT'S BURRITO NIRVANA.Byline: Posted by Steven Rosenberg valleynews.com user I'll admit I was skeptical about the new food court at Westfield Topanga, what with its highbrow high·brow adj. also high·browed Of, relating to, or being highly cultured or intellectual: They only attend highbrow events such as the ballet or the opera. n. concept, real dishes and lack of a La Salsa. But things have changed. I have a new favorite place to eat, not just at the Topanga mall but in all of the Valley. It's called Boloco, and it's a fledgling chain (the only other California outlet is in San Diego) that serves excellent burritos, made the way you want them. My favorite so far is the Mediterranean, made with black bean black bean see castanospermum australe, erythrophleumchlorostachys. hummus hum·mus also hum·us or hom·mos n. I've also had the Summer burrito, also very tasty, with black beans, mango salsa, melted cheese and rice. The best thing about all of Boloco's burritos is that you can get them in either a white or whole-wheat tortilla, in regular or large size, and with your choice of steak, chicken or tofu tofu Soft, bland, custardlike food product made from soybeans. Yes, every entree can be vegetarian, and the tofu is seasoned and prepared perfectly. Did I forget to mention that you can get brown or white rice? If only every eatery offered these choices. If you're avoiding carbs, I can't help you, but Boloco can -- every burrito is available in a bowl, sans tortilla. The prices are also reasonable, $5 for a regular size burrito and $6 for a large. Obviously the large is the better deal ... but isn't that the way it always is? Anyhow, the open-kitchen layout of all the food court's tenants allows you to see your food being made, and since you can see everything, you'd better believe it's clean and well- maintained. Also at Boloco, there are great items for kids to eat that are not on the online menu, including wraps filled with cheese, Nutella and peanut butter and jelly. Those are three separate items, by the way, lest your stomach be turned. Our little girl loved the cheese wrap one day, and the next we had them make her a bean, rice and cheese burrito, which also went over very well. Boloco also has salads, soups and smoothies on the menu.
