BOLLER HEADS BIG-PLAY FIELD.

Byline: Gerry Gittelson Daily News Staff Writer

Kyle Boller Kyle Bryan Boller (born June 17 1981 in Burbank, California) is an American football quarterback who plays for the Baltimore Ravens of the National Football League. He was drafted by the Ravens in the first round of the 2003 NFL Draft out of California.  is the kind of player whose presence transforms a high school football game into an event.

The Hart High quarterback passed for 4,851 yards and 59 touchdowns last fall, the best single-season performance in regional history. Local fans can catch one last glimpse of him as a prep athlete tonight in the third Valley Conference All-Star Football Game tonight at 7 at Cal State Northridge.

``We're very thankful Kyle is playing,'' organizer Bill Speer Bill Speer (born March 20, 1942 in Lindsay, Ontario) is a retired professional ice hockey player who played 135 games in the World Hockey Association and 130 games in the National Hockey League.  said.

Boller, bound for Cal, leads the East team, coached by former Hart quarterback Jim Bonds of Alemany. The 6-foot-3, 190-pounder, known for his spiraling long bombs, said he's very much looking forward to another game.

``This is going to be awesome, a lot of fun,'' Boller said. ``I'm kind of anxious, but it's an honor to play in all-star game An all-star game is an exhibition game played by the best players in their sports league. The players are often chosen by a popular vote of fans of the sport and the game often occurs at the halfway point of the regular season, although this is not the case for some all-star games . And I thought it would be neat to play for Jim Bonds.''

Boller is also scheduled to play in the Shrine All-Star Game in July before heading to Berkeley. He said the risk of injury was never a factor in his decision to compete in these summer scrimmages.

``I'm a strong believer that if you play timid and afraid, then that's when you'll get hurt,'' he said. ``So I'm planning to go all out.''

Boller figures to have plenty of support. His targets include Devin Montgomery of Alemany, George Wrighster George Fredrick Wrighster (born April 1, 1981 in Memphis, Tennessee) is an American football tight end for the Jacksonville Jaguars of the National Football League. He was selected with the seventh pick of the fourth round of the 2003 NFL Draft out of the University of Oregon.  of Sylmar and Kyle Cremarosa of Burroughs.

Hart's Billy Brecht, San Fernando's Major Caldwell and Grant's Duriel Carter are among his running backs.

The West, coached by Newbury Park's George Hurley George Hurley (born September 4 1958 in Brockton, Massachusetts) is a drummer noted for his work with The Minutemen and fIREHOSE. Hurley's powerful style brought a sense of musicianship to the genre, paving the way for new possibilities in underground music. , counters with Nick Czernek of Newbury Park, who passed for 2,896 yards and 27 touchdowns in 10 games.

``It'll be cool competing against Kyle Boller,'' Czernek said, ``but I'm not worried about trying to get one up on him. I'm just happy to be back because I've been away from football for a while.''

of Chatsworth all have big-play potential, so the game figures to be more wide-open than typical summer football fests.

There are plenty of hard hitters on defense for both teams. The biggest names on the East are linebackers Scott Hunt of Hart and Adam Fabela of Littlerock and defensive backs Corey Neal of Sylmar and Bryson Atkins of Alemany.

Here's their `big' chance: Several prominent small-schools players will test their mettle against superior competition, including West lineman Ashcon Madjid of L.A. Baptist, a 6-foot-4, 290-pounder who for the past three seasons has outweighed opponents by an average of 100 pounds.

``I'm really looking forward to proving I can play with the big boys,'' said Madjid, who figures to get more chances as a scholarship player at Cal State Northridge next season. ``I'm tired of being considered a good small-schools player. I want people to know I'm a good player, period.''
