BOLLER BOTTLED, BUT HART EARNS A TITLE ANYWAY; INDIANS DEFENSE STOPS ST. PAUL.

Byline: Vincent Bonsignore Daily News Staff Writer

There was no place to turn, and every step he took brought him face to face with someone else who wanted a piece of him.

But this time, Hart High quarterback Kyle Boller Kyle Bryan Boller (born June 17 1981 in Burbank, California) is an American football quarterback who plays for the Baltimore Ravens of the National Football League. He was drafted by the Ravens in the first round of the 2003 NFL Draft out of California.  wasn't trying to get away. Boller was with the people who adored him, not the ones trying to take his head off.

The wide-eyed kids who wanted to touch him and the blushing girls asking for a hug. They wanted to enjoy the moment with him, celebrate Hart's gutty 17-14 win over St. Paul St. Paul

The kids hounded him for autographs, reached toward him to touch his sweat-soaked jersey. And he loved every second of it.

``I can't even explain how I feel right now,'' Boller said. ``I'm very, very happy.

What a contrast.

But he couldn't care less what his final numbers were. Hart (12-2) got the win, its fourth championship and first since 1995. He ends a brilliant senior year with 4,852 yards and 59 touchdowns.

Most important, the Indians come away with the championship.

``That's what it's all about,'' Boller said. ``That's what our goal was and that's all I care about.''

Boller spent most of the night trying to stay on his feet, thanks to St. Paul's creative defensive scheme. Taking a page out of Alemany's game plan last week in the semifinals, St. Paul swarmed Boller with stunts and blitzes, then let its skill corners take away the Indians' outside threats.

Boller barely had time to set up, let alone throw the ball. When he did, it was often off his back foot, on the run, or with two or three defenders converging on him.

``They didn't do anything that we couldn't pick up,'' said Hart head coach Mike Herrington. ``We just broke down. It was tough.''

Hart scored 10 straight points in the third quarter to take a 17-7 lead. Boller threw 27 yards to Jon Lyons to make it 14-7, then Kirk Bardin kicked a 35-yard field goal to make it 17-7.

St. Paul (11-3) missed an opportunity to tie the game when Jack Thomas missed a 34-yard field goal with 1:46 remaining.

Boller put Hart ahead 14-7 with 9:15 left in the third quarter on the 27-yard pass to Lyons, who made a nice grab after Marcell Allmond Marcell Allmond is an American football cornerback. Professional career

tipped the ball in the end zone.

On the drive, Boller completed 4 of 6 passes for 64 yards, thanks mostly to an adjustment Hart made at halftime. Previously, the Indians loaded up the backfield with extra blockers to offset St. Paul's fierce pass rush. But that meant there were two less receivers. The Indians abandoned that plan, going instead with a spread offense with no extra blockers and four or five receivers.

``The adjustment worked out well,'' Boller said. ``That was big.''

Bardin extended the lead to 17-7 with his 35-yard field goal. Chad Carlson set it up with with an interception to put the ball at the St. Paul 43, then Boller kept the drive alive by throwing 17 yards to Jared Bazar on a fake punt.

St. Paul cut the lead to 17-14 when Allmond outjumped two defenders at the goal line for a 37-yard touchdown reception.
