DOCdata Media Services, originally a producer of cd's and cd-roms, started in 1997 its "one-stop shopping supply chain management" concept, offering a complete range of pre-production, production, product fulfillment, distribution and order (e-commerce) fulfillment services to customers in the music and multi media industry. Two years ago, DOCdata decided to invest seriously in the fast growing market of e-commerce. DOCdata wants to become a leading fulfillment provider for companies who sell their products through the internet.

To this end a fully-automated stock receiving, maintenance, picking, sorting and packing system has been designed. Phase One of this system, a fully automated sorting system, will be operational this month. The new sorting system is designed to handle large volumes (up to 28,000 units per hour) of all sorts of home entertainment products including books as well as small, sensitive high-tech electronic equipment like mobile phones, organizers, game computers etc. In addition, DOCdata Media Services has been customizing its IT system to meet the needs of e-commerce fulfillment. DOCdata Media Services is now able to rapidly implement a full range of fulfillment services for new e-commerce customers.

In January 1999 BOL.com started selling books via Internet. Within its first few months of operations, BOL.com has built a leading market position. BOL.com will substantially expand their product range in November to include the sale of cd, dvd, cd-rom, video, and console game products via their web-site. For all these new products, BOL.com contracted DOCdata Media Services for the complete range of fulfillment services.

For DOCdata Media Services, this new contract with a leading e-commerce company is an important step in realizing its strategic goal to be market leader in e-commerce fulfillment for home entertainment products in Europe.
