BOISE CASCADE CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER WINS CITATION OF MERIT
BOISE, Idaho, April 24 /PRNewswire/ -- Boise Cascade Corp. (NYSE: BCC) announced today that Chairman of the Board and Chief Executive Officer John B. Fery has been awarded a Citation of Merit by the Pacific Northwest Regional Council of the National Recreation and Park Association. The citation recognizes Fery's support of and contributions to conservation, land stewardship, parks and recreational opportunities on the state, regional and national levels.
Fery, chief executive officer for the past 20 years, has established at Boise Cascade a commitment to the communities in which the company operates and to improving the quality of life of the citizens who live in those communities. Under Fery's leadership, Boise Cascade has made gifts of land to the Idaho Foundation for Parks and Lands, including Boise Cascade Lake, which is part of Veterans Memorial State Park in Boise; beach-front property on Payette Lake in McCall, Idaho; and the Barber Pool Natural Area east of downtown Boise, a 400-acre habitat area offering refuge to wintering bald eagles, ducks, geese, and providing habitat for other wildlife and plant species.
In addition, Boise Cascade made cash grants that helped The Nature Conservancy acquire Silver Creek near Sun Valley, Idaho, and that also helped the Bogus Basin ski area outside Boise get back on sound financial footing following poor snow seasons in the late '70s. Over the years, the company has made gifts of money and materials for the construction or improvement of school playgrounds, community recreation areas and ball fields in Idaho, Oregon and Washington.
From 1986-1990, Fery served on the board of the National Park Foundation, headquartered in Washington, D.C.
