Sheriff's deputies armed with search warrants said they found boxes of sunglasses stacked to the ceiling in garages at three Palmdale homes.

``This was a major operation,'' said Deputy Paul Ullman. ``It was incredible. There were boxes and boxes and boxes of sunglasses.''

While officials searched two homes with warrants, a tip from a neighbor sent other deputies to a third house. Officials said they found another garage full of sunglasses and several individuals inside, assembling sunglasses at a table.

Deputies said they sought warrants after private investigators, working for designer-label sunglass sun·glass

Arrested at a house in the 5600 block of Eisenhower Way was Bernardino Corona, 44, whom officials accused of being a principal in the counterfeiting operation. He was being held Thursday on $500,000 bail at the Lancaster Sheriff's Station.

Another home in the Eisenhower Way area was searched, as was a home in the 38400 block of Fourth Street East, authorities said.

They said the sunglasses are copies shipped in large boxes from Thailand or China.

In Palmdale, authorities said, counterfeiters carefully attached brand names and packaged the glasses with plastic wrapping and labels similar to those used by Oakley, Calvin Klein and Ray-Ban.

``It's possible that they were selling the sunglasses to retailers who didn't realize that they were counterfeit,'' said sheriff's Sgt. Gordon Carn. ``They would sell them boxes at a time.''

Private investigators had been working on the case more than two years, authorities said.
