BOGHOSSIAN WINS CTA AWARD FOR REPORTING.

Daily News education reporter Naush Boghossian won the John Swett Award, honoring media for outstanding achievement in reporting and interpreting public education issues, the California Teachers Association The California Teachers Association (CTA), initially established in 1863 as the California Educational Society, is by far the largest teachers' union in the state of California. It is considered by many to be the most powerful union in California.  announced Thursday.

Boghossian, 31, won for a portfolio of work in 2005 including stories on opposing numbers on the LAUSD's dropout (1) On magnetic media, a bit that has lost its strength due to a surface defect or recording malfunction. "The story of public education deserves fair and accurate media coverage and these journalists and editors provided both with their outstanding coverage of our schools and students," said Barbara E. Kerr, president of the California Teachers Association, which sponsors the annual award.

The award is named in honor of the founder of the association.

Boghossian, a Glendale native, has worked at the Daily News since 2001 and covered the Los Angeles Unified School District The Los Angeles Unified School District (the "LAUSD") is the largest (in terms of number of students) public school system in California and the second-largest in the United States. Only the New York City Department of Education has a larger student population.  since June 2005.
