 BOEING 737 ORDERS SURPASS 3,000
SEATTLE, Oct. 5 /PRNewswire/ -- Southwest Airlines' order for

34 Boeing 737-300s became official last week when the carrier signed firm contracts converting 30 options to firm orders and placing four new orders, all for delivery between 1995 and 1997, Boeing Commercial Airplane Group said today.
On Aug. 6, Southwest announced its intent to place such an order. Since the transaction, valued at approximately $1.2 billion, was completed in September it will be counted in Boeing's third-quarter statistics.
The 737 model, already the most popular jetliner in history, now boasts total orders of 3,027.
An all-Boeing, all-737 operator, Southwest has announced orders for 193 of the type from Boeing, including 144 of the "new generation" 737-300s and 737-500s. The Dallas-based airline was a launch customer for both new-generation models.
To date, 156 customers have selected the 737; of these 25 are in the United States and 131 international. No other jetliner has won such widespread acceptance.
This action by Southwest brings 1992 announced orders for all Boeing jetliners to 158 with a total value of about $11.5 billion. The announcements include 86 new 737s, 19 superjet 747s, 15 model 757s, 8 twinjet 767s and 30 of the big 777s.
