BOEING: USAIR ESCALATES 757 DELIVERIES TO REPLACE SMALLER 737s

SEATTLE, Jan. 27 /PRNewswire/ -- Boeing Commercial Airplane Group today confirmed USAir has converted options for 15 twinjet 757s to firm orders and taken an additional 15 options.
USAir Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer Seth Schofield said the move was made to better match airline capacity with projected demand.
The 757s were previously scheduled for deliveries in 1996-97, but will now be available from 1995 through 1996. The options have delivery positions in 1995 and beyond.
Substitution of the 737s for 757s allows USAir to reduce its firm orders of 737-300/400 from 60 to 40 aircraft, with deliveries for those aircraft scheduled between 1997 and the year 2000.
Schofield said the revised schedules provide an opportunity for USAir to reduce its capital expense requirements between 1993 and 1996 by about $835 million.
To date, total 737 orders are 3,032 and 757 orders are now at 821 aircraft.
