CASTAIC - Ending days of risky underwater searching, divers recovered the last of four bodies from Castaic Lake Castaic Lake is a lake on Castaic Creek formed by Castaic Dam, in northwestern Los Angeles County, California, near the town of Castaic. The 323,700 acre foot lake (399,000,000 m³) is the terminus of the West Branch of the California Aqueduct, though some comes from the 154 mi²  on Saturday, more than a week after a high-speed boating crash killed four men.

Aided by sophisticated sonar equipment, a team of specially trained volunteer divers retrieved the last victim, 30-year-old Nelson Roy Brinkman of Phelan, from the lake's bottom at about 2:45 p.m. Saturday, authorities said.

While rescuers recovered the body of Ken Lane, 41, shortly after the Jan. 11 accident, family and friends of the other three men kept vigil at the lake for a week while searchers made repeated attempts to locate the wreckage and the bodies in waters as deep as 250 feet.

The bodies of Steve Coulombe, 38, of Agua Dulce Agua Dulce is Spanish for "sweet water". It also refers to various locations:

In Mexico:
  • Agua Dulce, Veracruz
In the United States:
  • Agua Dulce, California
  • Agua Dulce, El Paso County, Texas
  • Agua Dulce, Nueces County, Texas
and Castaic resident Chuck Wiseman, 47, were recovered from the lake floor Friday.

Coulombe, owner of boat design and manufacturing company High Torque Marine, was testing the twin-hulled prototype with HTM HTM HyperText Markup (file extension)

Hampered by the extreme depths, Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department This article is about the Los Angeles County Sherriff's Department, not to be confused with the smaller Los Angeles County Police

The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department (LASD) is a local law enforcement agency that serves Los Angeles County, California.

``This was a difficult process, and it was definitely a collaborative effort between a number of groups,'' said Sheriff's Deputy Richard Pena.

In addition to the volunteer divers - from Florida-based Underwater Global Explorers - and Kongsberg Simrad, Pena credited the San Bernardino San Bernardino, city, United States

Pena said it is unclear whether attempts will be made to salvage the experimental boat, which was found stuck in the silty lake bottom at an angle in about 240 feet of water.

``It is unclear if there will be a private salvage effort, perhaps for insurance purposes,'' Pena said. ``Our main concern was to recover the victims' bodies for their families.''

The boating accident was the deadliest in the lake's history.
