 Way in Newhall was reported at 1:50 p.m., said Deputy Richard Westin. News footage showed a bicycle near the body.

Detectives were trying to confirm the man's identity, Westin said.

An air and ground search had been under way for a mountain biker who called his wife that morning from his cell phone, asking for help, officials said.

Daniel Gendron, 22, left his Santa Clarita home about 6:30 p.m. Thursday for a bike ride on Placerita Canyon Road, east of the Antelope Valley Freeway, said Lt. About 6:30 a.m. Friday, Gendron called his wife from his cell phone, asking for help, but his phone went dead, police said.

The Santa Clarita Valley Search and Rescue team, along with two other teams from surrounding areas, used helicopters and horses in their search for the missing man, Dolan said.

At the time, police didn't suspect a crime, but maybe that the man was lost or injured.
