Celebrate survivor's day

Blood and marrow transplant survivors as well as donors and their families are invited to Blood and Marrow Transplant Survivor's Day hosted by Cedars-Sinai Medical Center/Samuel Oschin Comprehensive Cancer Institute. The event, titled "Celebration of Life," is free and will feature survivors' stories as well as live entertainment. The celebration takes place 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday at the Skirball Cultural Center, 2701 Sepulveda Blvd., Los Angeles. To RSVP or for more information call (310) 423-5351.

Santa Monica 5000

Run along the scenic streets of Santa Monica at St. John's Santa Monica 5000, a 5- and 10K run benefiting the St. John's Health Center 24-hour emergency department. The event this Saturday introduces the Jimmy Stewart 5K Team challenge in which three-person teams compete for the lowest cumulative time. It also includes a kids' fun run, cash prizes and a post-race celebration at the Santa Monica Pier. The race starts near the intersection of Barnard Way and Ocean Park Boulevard. The 5K starts at 7:30 a.m., the 10K starts at 8 a.m. and the kids' run starts at 9:30 a.m. Registration is $30 ($20 for youths) in advance and $40 ($30 for youths) on the day for both races. One-woman show on cancer

The Wellness Community will host a performance of the one-woman show "Other Than That, I'm Fine!," by actress Tara Branha. The show is a personal account of her own experience living with cancer. Cancer patients and their families are welcome. The performance, also featuring flamenco guitarist Todd Ruiz, takes place 7 p.m. Friday at the Wellness Community Valley/Ventura, 530 Hampshire Road, Westlake Village. Admission is free. MEND grand opening

MEND will celebrate the grand opening of its new and expanded Health Services Center. The event is free and open to the public and will include a variety of health screenings, medical consultations, health workshops and tours.
