To spread the word to new moms about the anti-cancer health benefits of breast-feeding breast-feeding /breast-feed·ing/ (brest´fed?ing) nursing; the feeding of an infant at the mother's breast. , Lansinoh Laboratories, a manufacturer of breast-feeding products, is celebrating Breast-feeding Awareness Month by donating $1 to Susan G. Komen for the Cure Susan G. Komen for the Cure, formerly known as The Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation, is an organization supporting breast cancer research. Since its inception in 1982, Komen has invested nearly $1 billion in research, education and health services, making it the  for each woman who registers for the new Pre-Natal Nurture Notes or Nurture Notes e-mail messages at www.lansinoh.com. The notes provide breast-feeding tips, encouragement and support to new moms until the baby's first birthday. The fund-raiser takes place now through the end of October, which is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Expectant mothers may register at www.lansinoh.com.

RUN FOR WATERMELONS

Run among wildlife and scenic landscapes at the Lake Balboa Watermelon watermelon, plant (Citrullus vulgaris) of the family Curcurbitaceae (gourd family) native to Africa and introduced to America by Africans transported as slaves. Watermelons are now extensively cultivated in the United States and are popular also in S Russia.  5K run and receive a watermelon while you're at it. Take part in the 5K or take a leisurely stroll on the health walk. Kids can also take part in the 1K Kids Fun Run. The event kicks off at 7:30 a.m. Saturday at Lake Balboa Park, 6300 Balboa Blvd., Van Nuys. Registration is $20 for the 5K run/walk, $15 for the kids' fun run. RESOURCE FAIR FOR SPECIAL KIDS

Families with special-needs kids can get information on community resources as well as medical equipment specifically made for kids with various disabilities at this year's CCS (1) (Common Channel Signaling) A communications system in which one channel is used for signaling and different channels are used for voice/data transmission. Signaling System 7 (SS7) is a CCS system, also known as CCS7. See SS7.  Equipment and Resource Fair. Held every other year, the fair showcases such products as wheelchairs, communication devices and orthotics orthotics /or·thot·ics/ (-iks) the field of knowledge relating to orthoses and their use.

, and features new information on recreational programs, service animals and assistive technology Hardware and software that help people who are physically impaired. Often called "accessibility options" when referring to enhancements for using the computer, the entire field of assistive technology is quite vast and even includes ramp and doorway construction in buildings to support . Educational seminars on various topics will be held throughout the day. Health-care professionals may also attend. The fair takes place from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Thursday at Alfonso Perez Special Education Center, 4540 Michigan Ave., Los Angeles. Admission is free (lunch is offered for a nominal fee).
