BOC expands its National Scheduling Center in Bethlehem, Pa.

Business Editors

MURRAY HILL, N.J.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 11, 2002

BOC (NYSE: BOX) has nearly completed an expansion of its National Scheduling Center (NSC) in Bethlehem, Pa., almost doubling the facility's current size.

The expansion allows BOC to place bulk scheduling, remote plant operations, customer engineering services, logistics management and telemetry under a single roof.

"This investment clearly demonstrates BOC's commitment to customer service," says Gary Peterson, manager, NSC. "BOC has taken a good idea and turned it into a world class operation that delivers added value for the customer," Peterson adds.

The NSC, originally established in 1988 to schedule deliveries for a single BOC industrial gases production facility, now schedules approximately 45,000 deliveries a month and responds to more than 40,000 incoming customer calls per month. In addition, NSC personnel, using BOC's proprietary Tel-tank(TM) telemetry system, remotely monitor the fill levels of the liquid gas storage tanks on customer sites and manage distribution at more than 60 BOC industrial gases production sites.

"These proprietary forecasting and scheduling tools enable BOC to continue improving upon its already exceptional service interruption rate of 0.65 per thousand deliveries," Peterson said.

The NSC operates 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and is the single point of contact for all of BOC's North American bulk and onsite customers. In addition, the NSC functions as the crisis and emergency management center for BOC's safety, health, environmental and quality group.

BOC was the first industrial gases company to establish a National Scheduling Center. And the Bethlehem facility has served as served as a model for other BOC scheduling centers in the UK, South Africa, Australia and Japan.

The BOC Group (NYSE:BOX), the worldwide industrial gases, vacuum technologies and distribution services company, serves two million customers in more than 50 countries. It employs some 43,000 people and had annual sales over $6 billion in 2001. Further information about The BOC Group may be obtained on the Internet at http://www.boc.com.
