In addition to the hydrogen plant, BOC recently commissioned an oxygen supply system at the Lemont facility. The oxygen is used in CITGO's Claus sulfur recovery unit to convert hydrogen sulfide hydrogen sulfide, chemical compound, H2S, a colorless, extremely poisonous gas that has a very disagreeable odor, much like that of rotten eggs. It is slightly soluble in water and is soluble in carbon disulfide. to sulfur, which decreases the sulfur dioxide emissions from CITGO's automotive fuel products. BOC also is a strategic hydrogen supplier to CITGO's parent company, Petroleos de Venezuela, S.A., (PDVSA PDVSA Petroleos De Venezuela, SA ), the national oil company of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela.
