BOB EVANS FARMS ANNOUNCES YEAR-END RESULTS

BOB EVANS FARMS ANNOUNCES YEAR-END RESULTS
 COLUMBUS, Ohio, June 1 /PRNewswire/ -- Record-setting consolidated

net sales of $556,304,000, for the fiscal year ended April 24, 1992, are announced today by Bob Evans Farms, Inc. (NASDAQ: BOBE) and are an 11 percent increase over a year ago when year-end sales were $501,305,000. For the fourth quarter, net sales increased 13 percent.
According to Daniel E. Evans, chairman of the board and chief executive officer of Bob Evans Farms, Inc., the increase in net sales for both the fourth quarter and the fiscal year were mainly due to more restaurants in operation, improvement in same-store restaurant sales and the addition of sales from Mrs. Giles Country Kitchens, Inc. which the company acquired in September 1991. Hickory Specialties, Inc., acquired on March 30, 1992, produces high quality charcoal, wood smoking chips, commercial grilling equipment and natural smoke flavoring. The addition of Hickory Specialties, Inc. during the last quarter did not have a material effect on net sales.
Net income before extraordinary gain increased 17 percent for the fourth quarter and the fiscal year. The increases in both periods were due to improved profit margins in the food products segment because of lower live hog costs and more restaurants in operation. The inclusion of Mrs. Giles Country Kitchens, Inc. and Hickory Specialties, Inc. did not have a material effect on net income for either period. Extraordinary gain reported a year ago was the result of the insurance settlement in connection with a fire at its Gallipolis, Ohio, production facility in December 1990.
On April 17, 1992, the Bob Evans Farms board of directors declared a five and one quarter cents ($.0525) per share dividend payable June 1, 1992, to stockholders of record May 8, 1992.
Bob Evans Farms, Inc. currently owns and operates 272 Bob Evans and Owens Family Restaurants in 16 states in addition to Cantina del Rio, a new Mexican restaurant. Bob Evans Farms includes Bob Evans Farms Sausage and foodservice, Mrs. Giles Country Kitchens, Inc. (producer and distributor of fresh deli salads) and Hickory Specialities, Inc. (producer and distributor of charcoal and related products).
