Board members agreed Monday to wait until it is known whether the state will approve funding class-size reduction in grades K through 3, and how much will be granted per pupil.

Teachers urged the district not to approve the team-teaching reduction, saying it would cause chaos, reduce planning and not allow increased student achievement.

If team teaching is used to reduce class size, students will qualify for only half the per pupil state funds.

The board already gave the go-ahead to begin planning the reduction of grade three.

On Monday, the board agreed that schools that cannot reduce grade 3 to 20 students still can qualify for state funds if they use three teachers instructing 60 students in two classrooms.
