BOARD MULLS $7 MILLION CUT FOR DISABLED, OTHERS.

Also Tuesday, members of the Open Space District Advisory Committee presented a report to the supervisors and compared the benefits of assessing a parcel tax or an added one-eighth of 1 percent sales tax sales tax, levy on the sale of goods or services, generally calculated as a percentage of the selling price, and sometimes called a purchase tax. It is usually collected in the form of an extra charge by the retailer, who remits the tax to the government. .

For either tax to take effect, the Legislature would have to allow the measure to be put on the ballot, then voters would have to approve it.

Mikels said she believed a vote on the tax district would have to be delayed beyond March 4, 2004.
