The budget for 1996-1997 was reduced by $242,000 over the past week after board members said the tab was too high.

Two board members - Julie Korenstein and David Tokofksy - still believed the budget needed further reductions and voted against the spending proposal.

The board has approved $6 million for the implementation of the special-education court settlement next school year.

So far, attorney fees and consultant fees - even with the reductions - are expected to eat up half that budget.
