BMWE REACHES TENTATIVE AGREEMENTS WITH CONRAIL AND AMTRAK
WASHINGTON, June 29 /PRNewswire/ -- The Brotherhood of Maintenance of Way Employes announced that on Saturday it reached tentative labor agreements with Conrail and Amtrak. The contracts will be put to a vote of union membership for ratification with no recommendation from the union's leadership.
"These contracts are better than the national freight contract, better than the Amtrak pattern, and better than the Presidential Emergency Board recommendations," said BMWE chief negotiator Jed Dodd. "But we still believe that they are substandard contracts.
"It will be a choice for the membership between agreeing to these contracts or risking the outcome of arbitration, which undoubtedly will be based upon previous contract settlements and patterns that are disastrous for workers."
