BMW SALES CONTINUE TO ACCELERATE; UP 30 PERCENT FOR FIRST SIX MONTHS
WOODCLIFF LAKE, N.J., July 2 /PRNewswire/ -- BMW sales totaled 6,623 units in June to propel sales for the first half of the year 30 percent ahead of the 1991 total.
The June sales performance by BMW's 356 authorized dealers was the best month in the last 18 and the second best over a 3 1/2-year period. The June total was 63 percent better than the 4,006 vehicles sold in June 1991 and brings BMW's year-to-date total to 31,309, compared to 23,939 for the first six months of last year.
"BMW sales have accelerated month after month on the strength of the 3-Series and 525i," reported Karl H. Gerlinger, president of BMW of North America. "The 3-Series model range, including two coupes, two sedans and a convertible priced under $30,000, accounted for more sales in June than our entire product line a year ago."
BMW expects to sell more than 60,000 new cars this year on its way to re-establishing sales at the 85,000 level by the middle of the decade.
"With a full range of competitively priced models and the plans for a new factory at the Greenville-Spartanburg Airport in South Carolina, BMW is confident of its ability to compete successfully in this market," Gerlinger concluded.
