BMC WEST BUYS THREE COLORADO BUILDING MATERIALS CENTERS

BOISE, Idaho, Aug. 31 /PRNewswire/ -- BMC West Corporation (Nasdaq: BMCW), a leading distributor and retailer of building materials in the western United States, is expanding its operations in Colorado with the acquisition of three building materials centers with combined annual sales of approximately $28 million.
The company finalized the purchase of Economy Lumber Company on August 31, for an undisclosed amount of BMC West stock and cash.
"The acquisition of Economy Lumber Company in Denver, Greeley and Pueblo will bring the number of our building materials centers to 12 in Colorado," said Donald S. Hendrickson, BMC West president and chief executive officer.
Hendrickson noted that this acquisition is in line with BMC's strategy of acquiring profitable units in its targeted markets in the 11 western states and Texas.
The newly acquired centers all have pre-hung door facilities and the Greeley location also includes a roof truss facility. Providing value-added products such as pre-hung doors, pre-assembled windows and roof trusses, in addition to other building materials, allows BMC West to gain more of each dollar spent on new home construction.
With the purchase of Economy Lumber, BMC West has completed six acquisitions in 1994 consisting of eight units, with combined annual sales of approximately $85 million. The company owns and operates 47 building materials centers in 10 Western states -- Colorado, Idaho, Washington, California, Utah, Texas, Oregon, Nevada, Montana and Arizona. For the 12 months ended June 28, 1994, BMC West had annual sales of $476.4 million.
