Performance Management for MQSeries, MS Exchange,

BMC Software Tuesday announced the industry's broadest offering of management solutions addressing the middleware layer of application management with two new products in the PATROL(R) Management Suite.

These include PATROL Knowledge Module (KM) products for MQSeries and MS Exchange. Together with its other middleware management solutions, PATROL KM for TUXEDO, IBM's* Transaction Server, DCE and Lotus Notes, BMC Software provides a comprehensive management suite that addresses all key middleware components including message-oriented middleware, TP monitors, groupware and network services.

The PATROL Management Suite optimizes the service level provided to users of an application by automating and centralizing the control of mission-critical components including applications, databases, data, middleware, operating systems, server hardware and networks across Unix, NT, OpenVMS, MVS and OS/2 platforms.

BMC Software also uses this holistic approach in its support of the middleware layer by monitoring and managing middleware applications in an integrated fashion with databases, networks, operating systems and business-defined processes.

BMC Software Responds to Exploding Middleware Market

As companies continue to use middleware layers to develop mission-critical applications, the need for software solutions to manage and monitor the more than $875 million-dollar market of middleware products has soared in the last five years and is expected to reach $5.9 billion by the year 2000 (International Data Corporation, Middleware: 1996 Worldwide Markets and Trends).

Industry research has shown that 40 percent of all new client/server applications today are multi-tiered, requiring some type of middleware to maintain optimal computing environment efficiency. This figure is expected to grow to 75 percent by the year 2001 (Gartner Group, Middleware: The Foundation for Distributed Computing).

     Provides automatic and continuous monitoring of the messaging
     system and its components, enabling customers to support high
     availability requirements. By discovering the location and
     status of regions and other Exchange Server elements, the PATROL
     KM for MS Exchange reduces the discovery time from hours to
     minutes or even seconds depending on the customer's environment.
     This KM automates administration and operations and provides the
     administrator with the ability to automate problem discovery and
     resolution, including the automatic monitoring of error logs and
     disk space.

  -- The PATROL KM for IBM's* MQSeries
     Provides extensive proactive management and monitoring
     capabilities for MQSeries environments.  It is the only
     management solution that enables automated configuration,
     dynamic discovery, dynamic routing and load balancing of all
     MQSeries resources. It provides one logical view of the entire
     MQSeries environment and provides tight integration into all the
     existing benefits of the PATROL console.  The PATROL KM for
