BMC Software today announced the next step in the evolution of the Windows-based management console with its PATROL Pathfinder product. The PATROL Pathfinder product extends the Microsoft environment to enable users to manage their entire heterogeneous enterprise from Microsoft Explorer. PATROL Pathfinder is a plug-in software solution that enables Microsoft Explorer for the first time to support application and data object discovery, browsing and launching of BMC Software's PATROL(R) Management Suite of products. PATROL monitors and manages all major operating systems, relational databases and production applications.

For organizations using Windows 95 and/or Windows NT, Microsoft Explorer is an already familiar tool that browses, discovers, manages and launches files within the operating system. With the PATROL Pathfinder product, BMC Software expands the scope of Microsoft Explorer to browse, discover and launch other business-critical objects in a heterogeneous enterprise environment, such as applications, databases and system devices.

PATROL Pathfinder Enables Administrative Tools Launch

PATROL Pathfinder integrates application and database administration tasks for heterogeneous systems and enables customers to launch administrative tools from a standard operating system interface - Microsoft Explorer. The PATROL Pathfinder product currently launches the following BMC Software products: PATROL DB-Voyager(TM), PATROL DB-Alter(TM), PATROL DB-Change Manager(TM) and PATROLWATCH(TM) products. The PATROL Database Administration family of products enables users to administrate multiple heterogeneous databases and platforms from a single interface with a common look and feel. The PATROLWATCH products offer customers the ability to view the activities being monitored and managed by PATROL through industry-standard Web Browsers such as Netscape Navigator Client Software and Microsoft Internet Explorer.

PATROL Pathfinder also discovers all objects made visible to it by PATROL Agents and PATROL Database Administration products. These discovered objects include a vast number of heterogeneous devices, device parameters, applications, databases and their objects for the environment, giving the users visibility and control over the entire enterprise from one console. With PATROL Pathfinder, there is no new interface to learn and the need for additional database and application management tools or hardware is eliminated.

Pricing for individual PATROL Knowledge Module products begins at $750, depending on the quantity and server size.
