BMC Software Plans Support of Oracle8 with More Than a Dozen Data and Application Management Products; Support of Latest Oracle Release Signals Company's Continued Commitment to Managing Leading Databases.


HOUSTON--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Sept. 16, 1997-- BMC Software BMC Software, Inc. NYSE: BMC, is an American enterprise management software provider, focusing on IT infrastructure applications. BMC was founded in 1980 and is headquartered in Houston, Texas.  today released its first set of Oracle8-compliant data and application management products, continuing its path toward compliance for all BMC Software products. The commitment to support the latest version of Oracle's flagship product A primary product of a company, which is typically why the company was founded and/or what made it well known. For example, MS-DOS, Windows and the Microsoft Office suite have been flagship products of Microsoft. CorelDRAW is a flagship product of Corel Corporation. , Oracle8, is vital to meeting customer requirements and maintaining the company's firm position in the market. By the end of 1997, BMC Software will offer more than a dozen products across eight platforms and applications supporting Oracle8. Through the added support, BMC Software continues to strengthen its leadership position in data and application management.

More Than a Dozen Oracle8 Products Planned

More than a dozen BMC Software products are planned for support of Oracle8, Oracle's next generation database for network computing Storing and/or running applications in servers in a network. See cloud computing and network computer. . Many of these products will be showcased at the Oracle Open World Show on Sept. 22, 1997 and include:

-- Four popular PATROL(R) Knowledge Modules (KMs). PATROL KM products provide the expertise to manage a specific application or database. KMs planned for support on Oracle8 include: PATROL KM for Oracle8, one of BMC (BMC Software, Inc., Houston, TX, www.bmc.com) A leading supplier of software that supports and improves the availability, performance, and recovery of applications in complex computing environments.  Software's best selling products in the open systems market; PATROL KM for Oracle Applications enhances application availability and address problems before users are impacted; the PATROL KM for SAP R/3 allows customers to centrally monitor and manage R/3 applications and services; and the PATROL DB-Admin Knowledge Module integrates PATROL application monitoring for BMC Software's schema management products.

-- Automated data administration products. BMC Software's data administration products offer an automated method for administering multiple databases in heterogenous (spelling) heterogenous - It's spelled heterogeneous.  environments. Products supporting Oracle8 will include: PATROL DB-Alter(tm) for schema administration, PATROL DB-Voyager(tm) provides graphical database object discovery and browsing, and PATROL DB-Change Manager(tm) for schema, change, propagation and data structure synchronization

-- High performance database utilities. BMC Software's database utilities provide users with a proactive approach to ensure optimal database performance. Products that support Oracle8 will include PATROL DB-Stats(tm), the industry's only product for analysis and trending of space utilization. Other planned Oracle8 utilities from BMC Software include PATROL DB-Unload(tm) for high speed data unloads, PATROL DB-Integrity(tm) that validates objects and their relationships, and PATROL DB-Reorg(tm) for database reorganization.

-- Industry exclusive backup and recovery solutions. Organizations increasingly use specialized applications to enhance database procedures such as backup and recovery. The SQL-BackTrack(tm) for Oracle product automates and helps manage the backup process for Oracle8 and reduces errors through a guided recovery process. Other Oracle8 supported tools for backup and recovery from BMC Software will include PATROL DB Log Master, the industry's only log analysis and transaction-based recovery solution and PATROL Recovery Manager that performs automated, synchronized backups and recoveries across multiple RDBMSs.

Continued Oracle Presence with Management Breadth and Depth

BMC Software has been meeting customer requirements by providing solutions for Oracle databases and applications since 1994. Today, the solution set has grown to 15 products across eight platforms - Windows NT (Windows New Technology) A 32-bit operating system from Microsoft for Intel x86 CPUs. NT is the core technology in Windows 2000 and Windows XP (see Windows). Available in separate client and server versions, it includes built-in networking and preemptive multitasking. , HP-UX HP's version of Unix that runs on its 9000 family. Pricing and Availability

BMC Software's data and application management products will be demonstrated at Oracle Open World on Sept 22, 1997. Pricing for the PATROL Application Management Suite of products starts at $6,000, depending on the number of consoles and managed objects. Pricing for individual PATROL KMs starts at $750.
