BMC Software Inaugurates $25,000 Scholarship to Benefit San Francisco State University's Computer Science Program; Scholarship to be Awarded November 5 During Oracle OpenWorld '96.


SAN FRANCISCO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 5, 1996--BMC Software, Inc., a worldwide leader in the development of computer software for managing business-critical applications and data, today announced it has established a $25,000 scholarship endowment for computer science students at San Francisco State University     [ .

The scholarship will be presented to the university on November 5 at the San Francisco San Francisco (săn frănsĭs`kō), city (1990 pop. 723,959), coextensive with San Francisco co., W Calif., on the tip of a peninsula between the Pacific Ocean and San Francisco Bay, which are connected by the strait known as the Golden  Hilton at an event celebrating the 10th anniversary of Oracle Publishing.

The scholarship fund was created with a founding contribution from BMC Software BMC Software, Inc. NYSE: BMC, is an American enterprise management software provider, focusing on IT infrastructure applications. BMC was founded in 1980 and is headquartered in Houston, Texas.  and additional revenue from donations by corporate computer users attending the Oracle OpenWorld Oracle OpenWorld is an annual Oracle event for business decision-makers, IT management, and line of business end users. It is held in major cities around the world. The 2007 event was held in Sao Paulo, Brazil.  '96 trade show at San Francisco's Moscone Center. The additional BMC Software partners participating in the endowment include: Cabletron Systems, Compaq Computer Corporation (company) Compaq Computer Corporation - The largest US manufacturer and vendor of IBM PC compatible personal computers and servers. Compaq was started in 1982 by three ex-Texas Instruments employees.

The computer science department at San Francisco State University is widely known for its preparation of students for jobs as computer specialists in the software development and computer manufacturing industries. The department also prepares students for advanced graduate study in computer science. The department offers bachelor's and master's degrees in computer science as well as a minor in the subject.
