BLUE HEAVEN.

Byline: By SILVER WILKIE

CRAIG McKean had more than his fair share of the blues at the end of Heat One of the Scottish Club Championships.

In his limit bag of five were two blue trout, one of which was the heaviest fish to be landed.

That earned Craig, of East Kilbride, a bottle of whisky, but there was more. When the blues were combined with the three rainbows Craig also tempted from the Lake of Menteith The Lake of Menteith (Scottish Gaelic "Loch Innis MoCholmaig"), or, until the 20th century, the Loch of Menteith, is a loch in Scotland, located on the Flanders Moss, the flood plain of the upper reaches of the rivers Forth and Teith, upstream of Stirling. , the catch proved to be the heaviest individual bag of the night.

It resulted in Craig, who fishes for East Kilbride Angling Club, automatically qualifying for the final of the Daily Record Champion of Champions and helped his club into the semi of the Scottish Club Championships.

Craig, 25, said: "This was my best night of the season."

He tried the Rookery drift and within an hour saw fish beginning to move. But the rising fish did not take. The ones that did either took during the first couple of pulls or on the hang.

Craig said: "I was using a midge midge, name for any of numerous minute, fragile flies in several families. "For the whole night I had five offers which produced five fish. I had a smash take which broke me, and I lost a small one."

Craig's two blue trout tipped the scales at 3lb and 2lb 10oz and according to him were "cracking".

The best club bag of the night, eight fish for 15lb 11oz, was taken by Ayrshire's Middleton Angling Club.

Both events are run by SANA, the ruling body for game angling in Scotland, and sponsored by the Daily Record with co-sponsor Martin Grantham, of the Angling Centre, Stirling, putting up magnificent tackle prizes.
