A panel of health care leaders selected BCBSM and nine other finalists from among 49 entries. BCBSM was honored for demonstrating an outstanding commitment to improving the health and well-being of people throughout Minnesota. It was the only health plan based in the Midwest to be named as a finalist; all other finalists are from the East or West Coast. The Minnesota Action Plan to End Gun Violence addressed the statewide public health problem of violence. The program included the broad-based community response of over 1,000 citizens who analyzed the overwhelming problem and suggested solutions. A toll-free tip line to report guns and crime in school and a violence prevention advertising campaign are two of the resulting efforts of the program.
