BLOGS CAN BE FUN WAYS TO GET INFORMATION.

When I speak to various groups, I'm often asked, "What's a blog?" To be honest, before I started here at valleynews.com, I didn't know the answer myself.

However, I've discovered that blogs are becoming increasingly popular and can be great ways to find out information about various subjects.

A blog is basically an online diary. The blogger often has a theme.

For example, Jack Witt, a certified personal trainer in Studio City, writes about fitness in his blog Get Fit With Witt. In a past entry, he blogged about the many runs/walks in the area that benefit charities.

This week, on page 8, we feature Witt's entry about how the Internet has reduced our time to relax -- both physically and emotionally. Even on vacation, we check our e-mails and various Web sites to see what's going on at work and with our friends. I have to admit I'm bad about that.

Also on page 8, read a blog entry by valleynews.com editor Annie Hundley, writing about the John Humble photography exhibit at The Getty. Her blog is called Editor's Blog and several of her entries have focused on American Idol.

Another popular blog is Jen's AIDS/Lifecycle Quest by Studio City resident Jenifer Johnson. Her entries about her training for the big bike run June 3-9 are inspiring, particularly because she'll be riding without her husband, who was unexpectedly deployed overseas.

So, why not dip your big toe into the blogging waters and start one of your own. I'm looking to start one about karaoke mishaps throughout the Valley!
