BLINDED BY THE ICE.

Byline: Sandra Barrera Staff Writer

Oscar's brightest, boldest, most colorful rock of the night was not its host.

It was the diamond.

And on Sunday it was seen shimmering shim·mer

Diamonds adorned hair ornaments, dripped from the tips of linear drop earrings and were layered in colorful displays around necks, as well as other points south.

. And even brooches were worn in unusual and unexpected places.

Vintage diamond floral broaches were stitched onto a ribbon designed by Fred Leighton and worn in Scarlett Johansson's hair. Also evoking a bygone era was Laura Linney's Catherine Waterman pearl necklace, which was doubled and tied with diamond paisleys dangling at the ends. She is known to American audiences for her role as Dr.  received more than her share of sideways glances in a dazzling diamond necklace.

A major jewelry trend for this spring is color, from pastel diamonds to vibrant gemstones - oftentimes in the same setting - and this was certainly the case on the red carpet.

One of the few actresses to wear jewels from the House of Harry Winston Harry Winston (March 1, 1896 – December 8, 1978) was an American jeweller. And best supporting actor Morgan Freeman pointed out his yellow diamond hoop earrings.

But jewelry wasn't the only accessory to sparkle and shine at the Oscars.

All you had to do was look down at the feet of Kate Winslet, who was outfitted in white Stuart Weitzman pointy-toed T-straps with crystals.
