BLIMPIE International signs agreement with Allied Leisure Plc; 100 BLIMPIE restaurants planned in the United Kingdom.


ATLANTA--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jan. 6, 1997--BLIMPIE International Inc., the world's second largest sandwich chain, announced today that Allied Leisure has signed an agreement to open five franchised BLIMPIE sandwich restaurants in the United Kingdom.

If the initial outlets are successful, the company plans to open as many as 100 more restaurants, primarily traditional stand-alone outlets in central commercial areas.

BLIMPIE restaurants feature American-style submarine sandwiches with fresh-sliced meats, dairy cheeses, and fresh-baked bread. The first UK outlet opened in Bristol in November.

Allied Leisure is a diversified leisure and entertainment company, operating branded food outlets, bowling centers, bars, family entertainment centers and amusement facilities. It is the biggest 10-pin bowling operator in the UK with 24% of the market.

The agreement with Allied was facilitated by Albion Foods Ltd., the master licensee for BLIMPIE in the UK. A master licensee is responsible for the recruitment of new franchisees and the development of the marketplace through sales, administrative and support services support services Psychology Non-health care-related ancillary services–eg, transportation, financial aid, support groups, homemaker services, respite services, and other services .
