53 suspected pieces of military ordnance discovered near its Santa Susana Field Laboratory.

The environmental group Bridge the Gap said that Rocketdyne applied last week to the state Environmental Protection Agency Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), independent agency of the U.S. government, with headquarters in Washington, D.C. It was established in 1970 to reduce and control air and water pollution, noise pollution, and radiation and to ensure the safe handling and  for a permit to detonate the potentially explosive materials discovered during a recent inspection of the site.

The permit outlines safety precautions that Rocketdyne would take in detonating det·o·nate

Three small pieces of military ordnance, believed to be remnants from testing conducted decades ago, were discovered on the same site in the summer and subsequently detonated.

Bridge the Gap officials expressed concern that the area might contain more explosives.
