lawyers gave away 2,000 blankets Sunday to organizations that help the homeless.

``We wanted to do something nonlaw related for the community,'' said Brad Capener, one of the organizers of the second annual event.

The San Fernando Valley Bar Association's Lawyer Referral and Information Services See Information Systems.  raised the $10,000 used to buy the blankets from membership and private donations, Capener said.

The blankets were given to Bridges, Children of the Night, Haven Hills, Hillview Mental Health, Independent Living Center, LA Family Housing, Loaves & Fishes, Mend, San Fernando Valley Mental Health Center and the Women's Care Cottage.

Julius Jones, an administrative assistant for Hillview, loaded 275 blankets into the back of his pickup truck from the parking lot of the University of La Verne The University of La Verne is a private university in La Verne, California (about 35 miles east of Los Angeles) with a main campus, seven satellite campuses throughout central and southern California, a law school, and two military regional campuses at Point Mugu Naval Air Station  Law School.

``It helps tremendously,'' he said. ``A lot of these people don't have the basic necessities. And it takes the burden off of us to have to supply them.''
