BLACKMAILED TO KILL WITH PHOTO OF RAPE; Jury told of gay attack shame.

A BUSINESSMAN used a 10-year-old photo of a gay rape to blackmail blackmail, in law, exaction of money from another by threat of exposure of criminal action or of disreputable conduct. The term was originally used for the tribute levied until the 18th cent.  a friend into murdering his wife, a court heard yesterday.

Darren Lake was allegedly told the picture of him being raped would be shown to his parents if he didn't agree to Colin Harrold's plot.

Sobbing and speaking in a whisper, Lake, 31, told a jury his "whole world had caved in" when Harrold, 35, showed him the photograph.

The wealthy book dealer had got "total control" of him, Lake said and wanted wife Diane dead so he could live a playboy Playboy

lifestyle and avoid a costly divorce. Lake, appearing for the prosecution at Harrold's murder trial at Nottingham Crown Court, has admitted murder and conspiring with Harrold.

Harrold denies both charges.

The rape photograph was taken on a beach when the two friends were on holiday in Tenerife.

"It was a picture of me being raped by two guys," he explained. "I don't know Don't know (DK, DKed)

"The photograph shows me face down on the sand with my blue-green shorts round my ankles."

Harrold showed Lake the picture for the first time last autumn after offering him pounds 20,000 to kill Diane.

Lake said: "I just looked at him. He said 'I am being serious'.

"I couldn't believe what he was saying. I was shocked. He put his hand in his pocket and brought out the photograph."

Weeping quietly, Lake added: "He said he would give the photograph to Carol, the mother of my little boy, to my dad and my girlfriend Barbara. It would have made me look more useless than I was."

But if he did the murder Harrold would give him the photo and negative.

Lake explained how he drowned Diane's cat Cleo in her swimming pool, then he came back to her home in Stamford, Lincs, to help look for the pet.

Sobbing, Lake told how he chatted to Diane about her desire for children before battering her with a stair stair

The trial continues.
