BLACK LEGACY CELEBRATED IN LITTLEROCK MUSIC, SPEAKERS AND ART TO HONOR CONTRIBUTIONS.Byline: Daily News LITTLEROCK -- Keppel Union School District students have created about 2,000 pieces of art for the Friends of Jackie Robinson Noun 1. Jackie Robinson - United States baseball player; first Black to play in the major leagues (1919-1972) Jack Roosevelt Robinson, Robinson Park's Black History Month art contest. Their work will be on display in the park's gymnasium from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday as part of the 25th annual Black History Month program. The park is at 8733 E. Ave. R. The free program will feature a soul food reception, music, dance, historical skits and a photography exhibit on the history of African-Americans by artist Albert Ewing. The exhibit also will feature prominent African-Americans in the Antelope Valley, including Lancaster Mayor Henry Hearns and Daisy Gibson, after whom a Keppel district school is named. The Lancaster Library will host a program celebrating Black History Month from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday. The library is at 601 W. Lancaster Blvd. The program, "Let Your Dreams Take Flight The Dreams Take Flight program was created by Air Canada to fly children with special needs to Disney World for a day and has been in operation since 1989. During this time Air Canada has sponsored trips for over 13,000 children from Canada and Northern US to to the Magic Kingdom : African-Americans in Aerospace," will feature three guest speakers: Dr. John Ward, Omega Aviation Workshop-Omega Psi Phi Inc.; U.S. Air Force Maj. Lee Owens, deputy chief of standardization and evaluations at Edwards Air Force Base Edwards Air Force Base, U.S. military installation, 301,000 acres (121,805 hectares), S Calif., NE of Lancaster; est. 1933. It is one of the largest air force bases in the United States and has the world's longest runway. ; and Mark Dickerson, retired Air Force colonel and subsonics project manager at NASA NASA: see National Aeronautics and Space Administration.
