BLACK & DECKER ELECTS BARBARA L. BOWLES TO BOARD; ANNOUNCES RETIREMENT OF PETER L. SCOTT AS DIRECTOR; DECLARES QUARTERLY DIVIDEND

 TOWSON, Md., July 15 /PRNewswire/ -- The Black & Decker Corporation (NYSE: BDK) today announced that Barbara L. Bowles has been elected to the corporation's board of directors and appointed to the board's audit and pension committees.
 Bowles is president of The Kenwood Group, Inc., an equity advisory firm that she founded in 1989.
 From 1984 to 1989, she was a corporate vice president of Kraft, Inc., and headed the investor relations department. Prior to joining Kraft, Bowles held other investor relations and trust investment positions. She is a director of Hyde Park Bank and Trust Company of Chicago, The Chicago Urban League, and Children's Memorial Hospital.
 Peter L. Scott, a director of Black & Decker since 1989, has retired from the board. Scott was chairman and president of Emhart corporation at the time it was acquired by Black & Decker in April 1989. He served as chairman of the board of Black & Decker until February 1990.
 Commenting on the announcements, Nolan D. Archibald, chairman and chief executive officer, said, "We deeply regret Peter Scott's decision to retire, but we are grateful for the contributions that he has made to our board, particularly his assistance during the transition period when we were combining the Black & Decker and Emhart businesses. We wish him health and happiness in his well-earned retirement.

 The corporation also announced that the board declared a regular quarterly dividend of ten cents per common share payable on Oct. 1, 1993, to stockholders of record on Sept. 17, 1993.
 Black & Decker is a global marketer and manufacturer of quality products used in and around the home and for commercial applications and a major supplier of information systems and services to government and commercial clients.
