:BJ) today announced that Herb Zarkin has been elected president and chief executive officer of the Company. Mr. Zarkin has served as interim CEO (1) (Chief Executive Officer) The highest individual in command of an organization. Typically the president of the company, the CEO reports to the Chairman of the Board.  since November 22, 2006. He will remain as chairman of BJ's board of directors.

Mr. Zarkin has been a director of the Company since November 1996 and chairman of the board of directors of the Company since 1997. From 1993 to 1997, he served as president, chief executive officer and director of Waban Inc., which operated BJ's Wholesale Club as well as HomeBase, another warehouse merchandising business.

"Over the past few months, we have assembled a talented management team with deep wholesale club experience and a track record of success in the two areas where we want to focus our attention in 2007: merchandising and membership," said Zarkin. "I am excited about the opportunity to continue to lead the Company and I am optimistic about BJ's prospects for profitable growth."

BJ's introduced the wholesale club concept to New England New England, name applied to the region comprising six states of the NE United States—Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, and Connecticut. The region is thought to have been so named by Capt.  in 1984 and has since expanded to become a leading warehouse chain in the eastern United States United States, officially United States of America, republic (2005 est. pop. 295,734,000), 3,539,227 sq mi (9,166,598 sq km), North America. The United States is the world's third largest country in population and the fourth largest country in area. . The Company currently operates 172 BJ's Wholesale Clubs in 16 states.
