AUSSIE COMPANY BUYS DISNEY FARM MAGAZINES: An Australian publishing company has acquired Farm Progress Cos., which publishes Wallaces Farmer and 28 other farm magazines, from the Walt Disney Co. Rural Press Ltd. said it paid $56.9 million in the deal. The sale is subject to U.S. regulatory approval, but Rural Press officials said they expect approval sometime this month. Farm Progress Cos. also operates seven farm shows and has marketing and database services, and reported earnings of $4.8 million in 1996 on revenues of $39 million. Farm Progress Cos. came under Disney control last year when Burbank-based Disney bought Capital Cities/ABC Inc.
