Broadcast news ``money man'' Alan Mendelson has started his own half- hour TV show on KCAL (Channel 9) to offer consumers tips on where to find the best deals. The show is called ``Best Deals: Hosted by Alan Mendelson.'' The show airs at 11:30 a.m. Sundays.

Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Mark R. Goldston and President and Chief Financial Officer Charles Hilliard of United Online Inc. will present investor information at the UBS Global Communications and Technology Conference on Wednesday in New York City. Those interested in listening to the audio broadcast can log on to www.unitedonline.com.

Northrop Grumman Corp. has announced that David H. Barakat will become its new vice president of programs and technology.

The city of Burbank's Community Development Department Team Business Program, in partnership with the chamber of commerce and the University of Redlands, will present a course called ``Customer Service Skills'' on Tuesday from 6:30 to 9 p.m. in the police community room, 200 N. Fernando Lau and Richard Tinsley, formerly of Design Setters, have opened Vision Scenery Corp. Inc. in Burbank, bringing more than 20 years in the entertainment construction industry with them. Vision Scenery employs more than 65 craftsmen who produce sets, models, miniatures and props for production companies nationwide.

John and Cindy Gilmore of CJ Products in Chatsworth have begun to market their invention, ``the carthook,'' a device that attaches a shopping cart to the rear of a car for easy unloading of groceries.

The Encino gift shop Adeles II is celebrating its 32nd anniversary. Store owner David Hurwitz has spent the summer overhauling the inventory and bringing in new items. Adeles specializes in gifts for newborns, kids, housewarmings, loved ones and corporate clients.

Robert Goodman, founder of Box Brothers Corp. in Woodland Hills, has started a new company called Boxads4u that sells advertising space on the sides of moving and storage boxes.

A new WinCo Foods LLC store has opened in Lancaster. The store is at 740 W. Avenue K-4.
