The Los Angeles Quality and Productivity Commission recently elected Martin M. Cooper as its president. He is the president of the Encino marketing firm Cooper Communications Inc. Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa appointed him to the commission in 2005. He's also the past chairman of the Valley Industry and Commerce Association, a member of the executive committee of the Economic Alliance of the San Fernando Valley and on several other nonprofit organizations' boards.

Simi Valley resident Mel H. Abraham -- university professor, entrepreneur, coach and award-winning speaker -- recently earned the Certified Speaking Professional designation from the National Speakers Association and the International Federation of Professional Speakers. The CPS is the speaking profession's international measure of excellence and skill, and fewer than 10percent of professional speakers hold the designation. A certified public accountant for more than 20 years, Abraham has been giving educational and entertaining presentations around the country since 1993 that focus on developing businesses, entrepreneurs and executives to their fullest potential.

Westlake Village-based MyLLC.com recently promoted Westlake Village resident Andrea Hook from customer service and processing manager to vice president of operations. Her new responsibilities will include overseeing the customer service, processing and accounts payable and receivable departments. MyLLC.com is one of the nation's leading companies that assist small- and medium-size businesses with online solutions.

The Woodland Hills-based real estate investment group Younan Properties Inc. recently hired Byron L. Taylor of Dallas as its project manager. He will be responsible for overseeing major construction and tenant-improvement projects at Younan throughout the United States. Taylor has more than 25 years experience in construction and project management, having previously worked as superintendent/project manager for Turner & Jacobs in Dallas.

The Pacoima Neighborhood Council recently voted to have its land-use committee conduct a study of Providence Holy Cross Medical Center's environmental report to build a 101-bed patient-care building. After the 30-day study is complete, the council will give its recommendation on whether to support the addition. Sylmar and Mission Hills councils have already voted to support it.

Venice Nutrition will offer a free nutrition and fitness assessment in its Santa Clarita office Saturday. Customers will be able to get their body weight and fat measured, learn more about their nutrition and exercise habits, and get tips that can help them improve their fitness.
