J.D. Power and Associates founder J.D. ``Dave'' Power III has been named 2006 Entrepreneur of the Year by the USC Marshall School of Business' Lloyd Grief Center for Entrepreneurial Studies. Power founded the company, known for its customer satisfaction surveys, in 1968.

Santa Fe Sunset Homes and Land Development Inc. has opened in Reseda. The custom-home builder has holdings in Santa Fe, N.M. The company also renovates houses in the San Fernando Valley.

Vallarta Supermarket is expanding. A new store is replacing an old Albertsons at the northwest corner of Corbin Avenue and Vanowen Street. A Vallarta is also coming to Valencia at 22449 Lyons Ave.

Don Evans has opened Legal Documents For You, a legal document preparation service. Evans is not a lawyer but is registered and bonded as a legal document assistant and notary public. He can be reached at [phone].

1st Century Bank N.A.'s board of directors has appointed Randall T. Hata, currently senior vice president and controller, the acting chief financial officer. Hata is one of the members of the management team that organized 1st Century in 2003 and has headed the finance department since the company's opening in March 2004.

Coffee lovers alert: Another Starbucks is under construction at 21355 Sherman Way in Canoga Park. This one's a drive-through.

Thomas A. Hill has joined City National Bank as a vice president with the export finance group in the international banking services division. Hill was the president of the Washington D.C.-based Trade Finance Associates for the past six years. City National operates 55 offices in Southern California, the San Francisco Bay Area and New York City.

Catering whiz Marley Majcher, CEO of The Party Goddess, was named Small Businesswoman of the Year by the California Legislature in September during the seventh annual Women in Business awards ceremony.
