Bivens, a 5-10, 230-pound sophomore fullback who led Antelope Valley Christian to the 1995 eight-man championship, is ``one of (Northwestern Louisiana's) best players,'' Goodwin said. ``He'll be in the hunt for the starting fullback spot. He's in good shape and he seems to ready to get after it.''

Bivens, who gained 25 yards on six carries as a freshman, sat out last season with a knee injury. He was not available for comment.

Teammates Burnell Jordan and Irell Warren also were placed on six months probation but have quit the football team, according to Goodwin.
