``She finished first in league last year as a freshman,'' Ruiz said. ``She will be big for us.''

Georgescu, whose parents were both born in Romania, played tournaments in England, France and Germany with Neacsu. She found Neacsu through Ruxandra Dragomir Ruxandra Dragomir Ilie (born October 24, 1972 in Piteşti) is a female tennis player from Romania, who won four singles and five doubles titles during her career. The righthander reached her highest individual ranking on the WTA Tour on August 25, 1997, when she became the , a Romanian who plays professionally.

``We met Dragomir at a tournament,'' Georgescu said. ``And my mom (1) (Messaging-Oriented Middleware) See messaging middleware.

asked if she knew any good coaches. So she told us about Neacsu.''

In Europe, Georgescu competed on clay and now it's her favorite surface. On clay, Georgescu can get to more balls because the surface has give - slowing up opponents' shots - and she can slide.

Georgescu, who has played tennis since she was 11, plays for herself now but admits at first she played because her parents wanted her to do.

``For a while I didn't want to play at all,'' Georgescu said. ``But (my parents) kept pushing me and pushing me, and it grew on me. Before it was for them, but now it's for me.''

Georgescu spent this summer practicing with the coach she had before she went to Europe, and even with two underclassmen at the top spots, she thinks her team can challenge for the Golden League title.

``The team is going to be a lot tougher this year,'' Georgescu said. ``I'm sure we're going to do well.''

Georgescu's serve is the strongest part of her game and she isn't afraid of getting to the net.

Ruiz is also counting on incoming freshman Zahra Ghorbani as a likely No. 2 singles player.

``She should be the highest-ranked freshman in our league,'' Ruiz said. ``It's going to be hard for her to do it, but I think she can. I know that the two (Ghorbani and Georgescu) have been working hard over the summer and we should have a pretty good team.''

Ghorbani will have competition for top freshman honors in league - freshman Prapti Singh of Quartz quartz, one of the commonest of all rock-forming minerals and one of the most important constituents of the earth's crust. Chemically, it is silicon dioxide, SiO2.  Hill is billed by coach Bill Lenaway as the third- or fourth-best player in the league.

tournaments for two years, anticipates tougher match play at the high school level.

``I think I'm going to have a lot more to look forward to,'' she said. ``It's going to be a little more competition and definitely more of an experience.''

Although Highland has yet to play a match, Ruiz is already looking ahead to the end of league play and a showdown with Quartz Hill. The Bulldogs lost to league champion Quartz Hill in their last match of the 2001 season, and this year Highland hopes it can knock off the league champs.

``It looks like it's going to come down to November 7th,'' Ruiz said. ``Just like it did last year.''
