For example, a person could endorse Joe/Jane Blow for US President in 2008, meaning that he/she intends to support any campaigns Mr/Mrs.

``What's happened is that some people have thought the PTA in some way had contributed to that ad or assume that it's an endorsement of Fox,'' Humbertson said. ``That's a misunderstanding - they don't have anything to do with the PTA.''

Neither Fox nor Jill Lederer, Fox's campaign manager during the 1994 City Council race, returned telephone calls this week seeking comment and information on the PTA/PFA Day Volunteers committee.

PTA council members are worried that the ad could hurt local PTAs' efforts to drum up support, Humbertson said.

``I want to make sure that everyone understands, because this is the time of year when the PTA starts membership drives and we don't want to lose support because of a misunderstanding,'' she said.

The Conejo Council PTA is the executive board of all 17 Conejo Valley PTA units, bringing together PTA presidents for monthly meetings.
