They were honored by city officials Saturday during an outdoor festival featuring live music, displays of firetrucks and a police helicopter, a visit from Mickey Mouse Mickey Mouse

, described by Mayor Rick Reyes - a former police officer who wore his old uniform - as ``just an ice cream-and-cake, good old-fashioned birthday party.''

``We're a very proud city,'' he said.

Laura DeRiggs, 93, a former Lockheed accountant and 51-year resident of Glendale, was less proud.

``It was a beautiful city when I came here,'' she said. ``But it's entirely different now.''

, said he has lived in the same house on Lexington Drive for 61 years and has watched the city undergo a complete transformation.

``I've seen the whole thing change,'' he said. ``You had a railroad railroad or railway, form of transportation most commonly consisting of steel rails, called tracks, on which freight cars, passenger cars, and other rolling stock are drawn by one locomotive or more.  track right up here,'' he said pointing to Glendale Avenue. ``Verdugo Road from the (Glendale) College on up was all dirt road dirt road n (US) → camino sin firme

Thelma Baker, who will turn 90 in June and is the mother of Glendale City Councilman Sheldon Baker, said change is to be expected.

``I would like to pay tribute to all the people over the years who contributed their time and talents to developing what we have here in the city of Glendale,'' she said.

``We always miss the old days, but we have to consider them as part of the rhythm of life,'' she said. ``I'm glad for what's transpired, and what we have today.''

One of the more recognizable among the ninety-something crowd was Robert Beer, a celebrity look-alike for Dwight D. Eisenhower, who has played the late general and president in several motion pictures, including ``The Right Stuff'' and ``My Science Project.''

A retired engineer who moved to Glendale about 15 years ago, Beer said he decided to make a vocation of his resemblance to Ike after years of being taken for the nation's 34th president.

``People would see me and they'd say, `I know you're not Eisenhower, but who are you?' ''

Elmer Saunders, 90, a Boyle Heights native who moved to Glendale in 1928, proudly displayed the names of his 10 grandchildren GRANDCHILDREN, domestic relations. The children of one's children. Saunders said he also has 10 great-grandchildren, three great-great grandchildren, ``and I don't know Don't know (DK, DKed)
