Byline: Karen Maeshiro Daily News Staff Writer

With crews working feverishly to complete the JetHawks' baseball stadium behind them, beaming city officials on Friday unveiled the sport facility's name, The Hangar.

Council members wearing team caps pulled a blue cloth from an easel, uncovering an artist's rendition of the stadium entrance, with ``The Hangar'' in scripted letters backlit An LCD screen that has its own light source from the back of the screen, making the background brighter and characters appear sharper.  by a red neon halo above ``Lancaster Municipal Stadium'' in green block letters block letters nplletras fpl de molde

The stadium is expected to be completed by Monday, and a ribbon-cutting ceremony will be held at 6 p.m. Wednesday, officials said. The team's first home game will be April 16.

``I think it's perfect,'' said Weber, who stood in line the first day tickets went on sale and bought 18 for her family for the first game. ``Both of my sons are in the aircraft industry. It just seems appropriate for this area. We should be very proud of this building.''

It also follows a trend in the California League The California League is a minor league baseball league which operates throughout the state of California. Runner-up names for the Lancaster stadium included The Runway and The Launchpad, but The Hangar was the overall favorite, said City Manager Jim Gilley.

``The owners had some suggestions, and we've been talking about the name for quite a while,'' Gilley said. ``We got together and agreed that was the name that would be the most appropriate. It is one that would reflect the aerospace history of the Antelope Valley and tie in to the JetHawk name as well. I think it's short, sweet, catchy and to the point.''
