products, today announced the implant of the Inos, an advanced rate-adaptive pacemaker, in Amsterdam.

The Inos family of pacemakers introduces a revolutionary new sensor which fills a critical void in the pacing marketplace.

Unlike the current generation of rate-adaptive pacemakers, the Inos is capable of utilizing changes in the autonomic nervous system autonomic nervous system: see nervous system.

Part of the nervous system that is not under conscious control and that regulates the internal organs. It includes the sympathetic, parasympathetic, and enteric nervous systems.
to provide a more physiological heart rate response. This device responds not only to exercise, but also to emotional stress and circadian circadian /cir·ca·di·an/ (ser-ka´de-an) denoting a 24-hour period; see under rhythm.

changes, thereby, dramatically increasing the patient's quality of life.

In conjunction with the PMS (Pantone Matching System) A color matching system that has a unique number assigned to more than 500 different colors and shades. This standard for the printing industry has been built into many graphics and desktop publishing programs to ensure color accuracy.  1000 Programming System, another unique feature of the Inos family is its ability to noninvasively upgrade the pacing therapy. Furthermore, as new therapeutic and diagnostic features are developed, the pacemaker can be simply upgraded with the new functionality. This break-through innovation allows the physician to adapt the pacemaker to the patient's changing clinical needs.

a company spokesman, "this is a significant step forward for the physicians, their patients, and the pacing industry. Many years of development, clinical research, and in cooperation with the physician community, has culminated in a device which provides the patient with the most physiologic pacing physiologic pacing Cardiac pacing Artificial pacing that maintains the heart's normal contraction sequence–ie, A-V synchrony, with resulting hemodynamic benefits  algorithm ever developed. The device's unique and innovative automaticity features will establish a new pacing industry standard."

Inos represents the vanguard of a revolutionary technology which significantly improves the management of patients with implantable pacemakers. By allowing access to the flow of cardiac autonomic nervous system information, this pacemaker platform will be the basis for improving electrocardiostimulation strategies, including neurostimulation, myostimulation, and tachycardia tachycardia: see arrhythmia.
